Part 2 – Integrating Active Directory & vIDM with Aria Automation (VRA)

After deploying Aria Automation (VRA), the first major configuration step is establishing identity, access, and role governance. This ensures that users authenticate through Active Directory so in this blog we’ll walk through integrating AD with VMware Identity Manager (vIDM), assigning roles, and preparing the environment.

Integrate Active Directory into vIDM

Go to Identity & Access Management → Add Directory

Provide all these details

  • AD hostname
  • Bind DN
  • Bind password
  • Base DN

Check Users & Groups Sync status and then Click on vIDM Settings to add Roles and assign OU’s

On my AD, define few AD groups and users for the Eng OU

Add the AD group we wish to sync in VIDM.

Check Users & Groups sync status and ensure your OUs (Eng) and groups (Eng‑Admins, etc.) appear

Assigning vIDM Roles

If we wish to assign vIDM Roles for a AD user, Go to Roles > Select a role (e.g., Administrator)

Add user/group and Click Save

Assigning VRA Service Roles

To assign Service Roles Login to VRA login as configadmin and go to Identity & Access Management → Enterprise Groups

Search for AD group (e.g., eng-admin) and assign all the Service Admin roles. This gives full access to all VRA services

Likewise Search for AD group (e.g., eng-users ) and assign all the Service users roles. This gives role specific access to all VRA services

Login as eng-admin or vcfadmin and we can see all the services

This determines what each group can access across VRA services such as Cloud Assembly, Service Broker, Code Stream, and more.

Customize VRA Branding

Upload your logo, choose colors, and apply the theme to personalize the login experience
