Downgrade VMware Hardware Version

There are few occasions you would need to revert your Virtual Machine Hardware version so this write-up covers the probable steps one can take to do the conversion

This table lists the virtual hardware version of all ESXi OS.

Snapshot the VM and power off the VM. The file that needs editing is the.VMX file

These are the steps to change VMware hardware version compatibility back to a compatible state

Browse to the datastore location and edit the .vmx file via the vi editor and make the changes

Power up the VM and remove the snapshot
