The Morpheus VM Essentials manager is delivered as a virtual appliance that runs on top of any of the HVM hosts in the cluster. On HVM OS 26.04, hpe-vm has been replaced by hvmcli

Installing the VM Essentials manager | HPE Morpheus VM Essentials Deployment Guide

Download the HPE Morpheus Manager ISO from HPE portal

Attach the Manager ISO on one of the HVM’s

Mount the ISO to a path in your HVM host system

root@hvm-n1:# lsblk | grep rom

root@hvm-n1:# sudo mount /dev/sr0 /media
mount: /media: WARNING: source write-protected, mounted read-only.

Fill in the required information and ensure we change the management interface to bond0,

On HVM OS 26.04, hpe-vm has been replaced by hvmcli. Check the vSwitch that got deployed which should be vs0

From the README files, to install VM Essentials manager, let’s do a precheck

hvmcli deploy manager precheck
–ip 172.16.11.70
–interface vs0
–image /media/HPE_Morpheus_Manager-9.1.0-1.qcow2.gz
–size M
–json

Here’s the deploy command as the README shows it, with our values filled in:

read -rsp “Password: ” P; echo; printf ‘%s\n’ “$P” | sudo hvmcli deploy manager –ip 172.16.11.70 –netmask 255.255.255.0 –gateway 172.16.11.1 –hostname vme-mgr –admin-user admin –interface vs0 –image /media/HPE_Morpheus_Manager-9.1.0-1.qcow2.gz –size M –dns ‘172.16.11.5’ –admin-password-stdin; unset P

Type the password, press Enter

The VM Essentials manager is deployed

Configuring the VM Essentials manager

Login as https://vme-mgr.lab.internal

Fill in the Account Name for the Master Tenant. as for example vmanalyst-lab.

Enter the admin user’s information, this is the web UI admin so i’ll pick a new user other than vmeadmin.

Enter a name for the VM Essentials manager appliance. eg: vme-mgr

If you don’t have a valid license or are just evaluating the solution, a 60-day evaluation period is activated by default so just click Complete Setup

That’s it to deploying VM Essentials Manager..

To configure the default credentials for our admin user to login to VM’s we will need to define it in the cloud-init settings

Go to Administration → Settings → Provisioning and add a default user/password for our Linux and Windows VM’s

In this next blog, we will create our HVM Cluster
