One of the biggest improvements in VM Essentials v9 is how simple the installation process has become. Earlier versions required installing Ubuntu first, then layering HVM on top. With v9 and above HPE finally bundles everything into a single HVM ISO, making the deployment feel more like installing a simple Ubuntu OS.
Support Matrix Requirements
HVM’s will need to be installed on a Certified hardware but we are going to install three hosts in our nested environment running VMware ESX. This software is licensed per socket and its subscription based but we have a 60-day free trial covering up to 6 sockets.
DNS Requirements
On our technitium DNS, I’ve added 3 address records
Download Software
From the HPE portal, download VM Essentials and Morpheus Software

System and Install Requirements
I’ve gone ahead and deployed 3 VM’s in the spec and powered on the VM’s.
- Minimum of 3 nested servers
- HVM OS 26.04, downloadable from the HPE web portal
- 250 GB for HVM OS (This is required for HVM Manager) so don’t size disks like 25 GB for Node1
- 32 GB RAM
- 8*10 Gbps connection
- Intel VT or AMD-V enabled
- SSH & NTP

HVM host NIC map
IP MAC match must be OK before assigning IPs so just create a mapping file like this, so the configuration becomes easier.
| Proxmox VM NIC | VLAN | Use |
|---|---|---|
| net0/1 | 1611 | Management |
| net2/3 | 1612 | Live Migration |
| net4/5 | 1619-1632 | Workload traffic |
| nic6 | 1617 | iscsia |
| nic7 | 1618 | iscsib |
HVM Installation and Configuration
