Part 13 – Configuring BIOS Policies

Loading

Boot policy lets us abstract the bios usually found on servers via a UCS policy. The BIOS policy is then to be done via the UCS mgr just similar to how we abstracted other areas of the server as well. BIOS policy lets us optimize a server as per the best-known recommendation as suggested by a vendor to boot the OS on it.

The sample below will show how a bios policy is created from scratch so obviously, you will need to work with the best practices on the OS to pick up these settings but I am to pick a few settings at random.

Click on the Servers Tab – Policies – BIOS Policies.

The default recommendation of BIOS defaults for a particular server type are available for us to use

Right-click on BIOS Policies and select create BIOS Policy.

Give the Bios Policy a name as ESX-Boot-Policy

I will just set some settings at random

Again for CPU settings, we will stick to whatever is suggested by the vendor.

We will enable VT and few other settings as well

Under the USB tab, I’ll just disable the USB

I’ll be leaving everything else at default and clicking Finish to save the configuration.

Our ESX boot policy is ready and available for use
